The Jesus Creed folks are still at it .. part forty of their Colossians Remixed reviews. I'm still hoping to finally get around to part three (and beyond) of my recap of Joel's book this weekend. But picking up from another comment made some time ago, I think I've got another lengthy series of posts to get around to.
Back then, I noted that I felt that I had all of one comment to make on any politics/religion intersection item and that it would probably come after a book is published by one of my blogfriends, Amy Sullivan. By then, of course, Joel Hunter's book will have also been republished by then. What sparked a little interest prior to all of this, of course, was David Kirkpatrick's NYT Magazine article on the modern era Christian political right. What's fueling me right now, of course, is that Greg Boyd - and others at Woodland Hills Church - are essentially preaching the antithesis of this intersection. Essentially, the series ("Revolting Beauty") is on what the Kingdom of God is supposed to look like here on earth (hint: as it is in heaven).
There's loads of wonderful stuff in the series. And it affords me the excuse to really start the concept from the proper side of the debate ... that is, what Christianity is supposed to be all about. At least as I see it, which may differ from any number of readers. Here's the prequel to the series, I suppose: Boyd's take on "religion."
More later ... running out for lunch now.
