Saturday Movie Fun, sorta. The subject matter slightly aside, I was more than a tad hesitant to see it for whole slew of reasons. It didn't help that I was almost impaled getting to my seat. Well, what doesn't kill ya, makes you stronger (I'm learning day by day thanks to increased reading of God’s word).

The lead actor deserves an Oscar. I felt him in this role. His “performance” was akin to Sidney Poitier’s in “A Patch of Blue.” You get the feeling he’s not just going through the lines and he’s unto the next paycheck. You see him, the person … his soul. The lead actress held more than her own also. In the early scenes, she reminded me of Renee Zellwegger (an early Katy, Texas native), who can play any role. All the roles were well cast, including the mother’s. There’s a very sweet moment between the lead actor’s character and the mom.

Yes, there were a couple of scenes that were predictable. At one point, I wanted to say to this lady “Oh come on, you can’t tell me you didn’t see that coming.” However, those scenes did not take away from the overall quality. I admit I had to fight back tears (for the aforementioned slew of reasons).

I liked their infusion of Christian and Latin music. The former was soft and tender (like Christ) and the latter was (as it should be) spicy and fiery.

Bella, the movie, is beautiful. If the movie and all involved do not get an Oscar nod, it doesn’t matter. Their reward in heaven will be greater. Great job. Thanks for the recommendation.

One final thought on the lead actor's character. He doesn't have much in terms of what the world considers as riches. But, whose definition do we go by? Hint, he's not of this world. In the word of our beloved Disney character, Elmer Fudd, I say "phoo, phoo, phooey." That's right Elmer, you tell 'em!
