If you're looking for something wonkish to do between now and mid-January, the Houston Holocaust Museum will be having a lecture series on Medical Ethics and the Holocaust. It's a rather lengthy series ... twenty-four speakers, eighteen different weeks. There's a few speakers that lie just a bit outside the immediate realm of medical ethics and the holocaust. Ward Connerly, chief among them. But it should be interesting regardless of how many of these you can make it to.
Of primary interest to me is the final lecture in January, with Dr. Francis S. Collins. I've had his book - "The Language of God" - sitting patiently over on the sidebar for a while. It's out in paperback now. So chances are, I'll find an excuse to pick it up between now and January. I also tried to register for some of the first lectures, but they appear to be all booked up. Since Collins' lecture in January is at the Univ. of Houston, that seems to at least have more seating available.
