I'm not overly keen on a lot of what I see discussed in regard to the "emergent church," but I greatly appreciate the need for those involved in ministry to rethink how to reach out to those whom we occassionally state a desire to reach out to. In that spirit, I picked up a copy of John Burke's "No Perfect People Allowed" while cooling off at church on Saturday. True to form, there's some semantics in there that bother me ... like the term "post-Christian" people and society. Wha?
Yet, despite the cautiousness and trepidation, I trudge through and find a whole lot more that I like ... namely the nature of what type of people these really are and the inherent difficulty in reaching them. A lot of it, I can relate to. And it's a powerful enough draw that I'm willing to read through and see if the quibbles I have with Burke are those of semantics or something more meaningful. Just took in the first chapter Saturday and it was a great read. So I may have to pick it up and give it a more thoughtful reading later on.
