Another KOTH funny that made me laugh last night. Khan, the Laotian neighbor of the show's star, goes to track down his fellow Asian business acquaintance ... hilarity ensues:
KAHN: Ted! I look for you at the Buddhist temple.
TED: Oh, hi, Kahn. We're Episcopal now. It's just good business.
In fairness, there's scores of wonderful Episcopalians I've known during my lifetime. So I offer this not to pick on the church that I first attended as a child. Still, it speaks to the subtle ways in which church life can wound or disillusion people. I never experienced a stereotypical insurance salesman trying to do business through the church directory. My experience here was in a small town where most everyone was normal ... at least in a Garrison Keillor sort of way ... just more southern.
